I just turned down an offer from my dream company!

When I was in college, I really wanted to work there. But after I failed their interview, I joined other companies and eventually seemed to forget about that dream.

Recently, I happened to come across a job posting from that company while scrolling through LinkedIn. The position seemed like a perfect fit for me. It felt as if all the requirements had been written just for me. I decided to give it a shot, and after two rounds, they made me an offer. The benefits, environment and career prospects were all better than those at my current company.

So, why did I decide to leave my current company at the first place? I have learned a lot while working at this startup. They’ve given me plenty of challenges and allowed me to make mistakes along the way. I’m really grateful for that! But there’s one problem: I’ve been working alone most of the time.

I’ve had to figure things out on my own. Luckily, I’ve managed to get the systems up and running but they are still far from what I would like them to be - and probably far from what our users deserve, too.

This really bother me because because I have put so much time and effort into building those systems. I am always curious about how to build things the right way and what I can learn from other people. I feel like having good examples oto learn from would help me improve much faster. And believe that’s something the other company could offer me.

My boss didn’t want me to leave. I don’t know if this is just something every manager would do, but after talking with him several times and remembering how he’s treated me over the past three years, I just couldn’t bring myself to leave.

There’s another thing that made me reconsider decision. Maybe external factors aren’t everything. What could a good engineer achieve if they were in my current position? Are the results we’ve achieved so far really just my responsibilty? Or are there other factors at play?

So, here I am, staying at my current company and taking on a different challenge: changing myself and figuring out how much further I can go.

Let’s see how far I can get!
